The rain of recent days in Sicily destroyed houses, people, environment. The number of dead is not certain, yet, but it will be more than twenty. The mud came down from the mountains and took everything away. For some people it is the fault of illegal building in a hydrological risk area.
Maybe we will know the truth in many years, or as often happens in Italy, we will never know it.

Through me the way into the suffering city, Through me the way to the eternal pain, Through me the way that runs among the lost. The words of Dante, today, are very relevant when we think about Naples, about urban decay, about Camorra, or about garbage. The waste crisis is no longer news. The newspapers have other emergencies: new houses (still very few) for L'Aquila citizens, the defence of press freedom, the blunders of Berlusconi.

There's a war going on for decades all over the world that has caused thousands of deaths without getting the slightest result. It's the war of the world's governments against drugs. An illegal drug is a substance that governments have decided to prohibit quite arbitrarily. Alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs have stronger effects on the human body than many illegal drugs, yet they are legal. The reason why certain drugs have been banned and others not it's only cultural.

Ci sono voluti 18 anni per rivederlo totalmente funzionante: ora il 4 e il 5 ottobre il teatro Petruzzelli, a Bari, riapre le sue porte. Le immagini dell’incendio della notte tra il 26 e il 27 ottobre del 1991 sono ancora limpide nella memoria di molti. Ora potrebbero essere cancellate da quelle del concerto della Nona sinfonia di Beethoven eseguita dall’Orchestra sinfonica della Provincia di Bari.
