People who have lived in Italy for 20 years and now are sent away, because they worked illegaly for a time and lost their residence permit. A married man with a son in Italy who lived here for almost 30 years. A regular migrant, who lost his job and so was denied residence. Unlucky ones taken at random during inspections, as Mabruka, the 44-year-old woman who killed herself in May in Ponte Galeria Cie after learning that she was about to be sent back to Morocco, even though she lived in Italy for 30 years and in our country had a husband and a son.
Because the truth is that all laws in this country work this way: excessive severity that destroys the lives of the very few who are caught in the pile without really solving any problem. Those detained in detention centers are only a small minority of illegal immigrants in Italy. And only a minority of them will really be repatriated, because to do that it's needed the collaboration of the country of origin. But in the meantime, they are actually in prison without having done anything, and are beaten at the first hint of rebellion. It's better than what happens to refugees in Libya, where they suffer much more serious violence, while the Italian government maintains good relations with the liable dictators, the lybian Gaddafi, and the eritrean president Isaias Afewerki.
Meanwhile, for the real criminals, who are just a small fraction of illegal immigrants, nothing has changed. If they are stopped they will be arrested and convicted. The security decree has nothing to do with security. Only serves to punish those who lived in Italy for years and has always worked honestly, but do not have permission to stay because they were unemployed for some time or had to accept illegal work.
But this law, such as rejections of refugees, never had anything to do with reason. Like all acts of this scoundrel government its purpose is only propaganda. Now they can tell voters that the "invasion of immigrants" was halted and crimes have decreased. None of this is true. The alleged "invasion" of immigrants has for years been a boon for the Italian economy, which could take hundreds of thousands of workers paying them very little and making them work illegally. The crimes have not decreased because they never increased as a result of immigration. It was just television, had nothing to do with reality. Trends in crime depend on many different factors, and the presence of crimes in the press and on television news is not statistic, even if the public thinks so. In this period, thefts and murders are more or less as many as they were when news talked about them every day. But since the government has said that the security problem has been resolved, information is in line and keeps quiet. Meanwhile, they are deporting people who do not constitute any threat from any point of view and with a very high cost to our taxes, up to 15,000 euros for each ejection. It's so easy to deceive Italians telling a bunch of idiocy. Now Italy is so secure.
