The two most important news of these days are those that have received less space on italian televisions and newspapers. It's not strange, is not accidental. In many cases it's censorship pure and simple, in others it's the sheer inability on the part of journalists to see the big picture. The two most important news of recent days are the manifestations of workers and students and the verdicts on the trials of 2001 G8 summit in Genoa.
250,000 workers and 150,000 students took to the streets in almost every city in Italy, but on television we have seen little or nothing. The workerswere the Fiom metalworkers protesting for the separate agreement on contract that the other unions are willing to sign with industrialists. The students were protesting against the devastation of public school by minister Gelmini, saying, "Without money, no reform." You cannot in fact call reform a series of cuts aimed at the systematic destruction of public schools.
The general plan behind the silence is that rebellion must have no voice, has to be sidelined, has to disappear. It's 'the same plan that we've seen in the trials on the G8 summit in Genoa in 2001. The largest suspension of human rights in a Western country in the last 60 years, according to Amnesty International. The greatest work of disinformation that has been successful ever, with the complicity of many journalists, even those who presumably would be of the left. Our mass media society now is like the dream world created by the computer in the movie Matrix, the rebels do not exist, people live cradled by the media in their complete ignorance. When people protest against the reality of things, seeks to unmask the illusion of reality sold on information, their protest is hidden and ignored.
When a protest it's so immense and great that you cannot hide it , as was in Genoa in 2001, just savagely massacre the demonstrators and then say that they were criminals who have committed "devastation and looting." They, not the "police" who were beating unarmed boys and girls, who charged for no reason against groups of older people and families, who tortured and killed. The policemen responsible, the few that have been identified, will not spend one day in prison for the very serious crime of torture.
Their commanders and political leaders were acquitted or never tried. Part of the protesters had mild sentences, ended with statute of limitation, for having defended themselves against an unlawful charge of the police, and this would in itself be a huge news, headline across the free information, if it existed. Another part, however, was sentenced to prison from 15 to 5 years. Like the rapists of Rome. Like the murderers of Nicola Tommasoli, killed in Verona by a group of neo-fascists. Much more of the policemen who killed Gabriele Sandri, Riccardo Rasman, Federico Aldovrandi. Like the two bartenders who murdered Abba, the boy killed in Milan for trivial reasons and racism.
What have ever done those "black bloc" as the regime newspapers called them as a negative label, to merit punishment greater than or equal to those of the most brutal killers? They were not accused of having beaten or injured police officers, but of devastation and looting. An offense created specifically to suppress and impose much heavier punishment than just normal damage of property. In prison for a time longer than murderers for having smashed windows. But their real crime is precisely to have taken aim at banks, the only true temple of our society, dedicated to our one true God, Money.
The workers and students in the square and these absurd and monstrous verdicts are the most important italian news of recent days. Instead, TV and newspapers only talk of Obama and Berlusconi and funerals for victims of landslides in Messina. Something that should be discussed at length but after the pity for the dead no one will speak again of the environmental crimes committed in the territory, until the next flood. Just as no one has shown the protests of citizens for decades of abuse and against the bridge. Because we live in a world of fake news and rebellion doesn't exist. If exist must be hid, and if they cannot hide it they will choke it in blood and punish it in court.
