Being an illegal immigrant in Italy is a crime now, thanks to the security decree approved by the Senate. A law whose utility, propaganda aside, is entirely lacking. The illegal immigrant could be fined, but probably will not have the money to pay the fine and of course neither to leave the country. He will have endless problems, however, to be able to become a legal immigrant, to find a house, to recognize and keep his children, to obtain a legal work, to have medical care, to go to school, to contact the police if he is the victim of a crime. He or she becomes a non person, a human being completely devoid of rights.
Rationally such a law doesn't make any sense. Simply forces the illegal immigrants, which are not criminals but simply people who do not have a regular job, to continue to work illegaly, rent a house illegaly, live hidden. The practical effect is a huge gift to the powerful Italian organized crime, which can exploit at its pleasure a mass of people without rights. A giant gift also to dishonest entrepreneurs who exploit illegal workers, who now have greater power to blackmail. That has been completely covered by a veil of cruel and idiotic propaganda to which the Italians have believed with the quiet apathy with which now they believe anything. Another small step in bringing this nation into the hands of criminals, not illegal immigrants but those who exploit them. Along the same line of the decree against wiretapping. Go backward Italy.
Illegal immigrants may also be kept in the Temporary Places of identification up to a year and half, instead of up to 2 months. That means virtually to keep people in jail without reason and without trial, for a longer time than you would receive as punishment for theft or drug dealing. For illegal immigrants would be better to commit a crime as soon as possible.
But the truth is that immigrants do not increase at all the levels of crime of a nation nor they steal our work, an OECD report of June 30 has brought to light as in times of crisis indeed they are the first to be fired.
But the truth has nothing to do with all that.
Also the senate approved the private patrols, another so useful measure to ensure safety to the citizens.
The opposition protest and also the Church and the Catholic associations. Civilization, human rights, reason and common sense protests too. But nobody in Italy is going to listen.
