Italian miracles

Italian communist party 50's posterWe must admit that Italian politics has made some real miracles. Berlusconi certainly didn't keep his historic promise to create one million jobs, now Italy just lost at least one million, but he did a miracle for sure. He manages to stay in power for years with the sole purpose of defending his private interests, doing absolutely nothing useful for the country. Even the Italian left has made its miracle.

It managed to bring nostalgia for communism to those who have never been communist. The PCI (Italian communist party) was in fact an opposition party with its own dignity. His criticism of the Italian social system and of capitalism had often solid motivations. Today even those who for reasons of age or other personal history has never voted for PCI mourns it bitterly every time the leaders of PD (democrativ party) say something. That's almost never something left-winged, or at least liberal.
Or rather we can say that the PD is now just the left wing of the Industrial association. With a political program that even the very moderate PSI (socialist party) of Craxi in the 80s would have considered indecently right-winged. The PD primaries to choose a new leader between Franceschini and Bersani is in fact more a race between the moderate center and the center more moderate. The only candidate slightly left-winged, Marino, has no hope of winning.
At the same time the Italian right becomes more and more extremist and celebrate without shame racism, the systematic dismantling of democracy, the occupation of the media, the defense of the corruption of the boss. Someone rightly said that the PD is that party that occupies the space where it should be the Italian left. Unfortunately, a part of Italy who wants a decent secular country, without racial laws, without corruption and friends of the mafia in the government, with less precarious jobs and a bit of justice, continues to vote PD even if clearly is a clerical party, which supports rejections of refugees, has a very negotiable ethic and considers the "flexibility" (also known as "bend 90 degrees") of workers a great idea. They do it because they think that basically there are no viable alternatives. There is the same bad reasoning among right voters who, while desiring less extreme policies in many areas, continues to vote for Berlusconi because there is not much alternative.
But the last great political successes of the PD were the tax amnesty, passed thanks to a sufficient number of absent in parliament among the opposition, and the rejection of the law against homophobia. Only a bit less opposition and they all can join Berlusconi's party on merits on the field.
These are real italian miracles: the right that historically supported order and the law now supports the human incarnation of the illegality. And the left that historically asked for a more equal and fair country now votes for the new christian-center party, marshy and compromised more than the old one.
